Falcons Get on the Board in the Series

FRESNO, Calif. â After losing the first two games of the Taylor Cup Finals by a combined score of 14-5, the Fresno Falcons rebounded on Wednesday at Selland Arena with a 4-3 victory over the San Diego Gulls in Game Three of the series and now trail two games to one in the best-of-seven.
Fresno took its first lead of the Finals when a deflected shot by defenseman Kayle Short eluded Gulls netminder Trevor Koenig at 4:14 of the first to open the scoring. San Diego would tie the game at one with a power play goal from Sylvain Deschatelets at 7:53. Late in the period, Falcons captain Jason Weaver registered his first point of the series when he jammed a backhand by Koenig at 17:32 to give Fresno a 2-1 lead heading to the second.
Skating three-on-three late in the second period with the Falcons still leading, 2-1, San Diego's Mike Garrow dumped a backhand toward the Fresno goal that looked to bounce off the skate of Rob Bonneau and past a handcuffed Terry Friesen to tie the game at two at 17:39.
The Falcons stormed out of the gates in the third, scoring twice in a 54 second span to take a 4-2 lead. On the power play, Cory Murphy beat Koenig cleanly with a wrist shot from between the circles at 4:37 before Glen Gulutzan lifted home a rebound at 5:31 to give Fresno a bit of insurance. San Diego would make things interesting down the stretch after Dennis Purdie tallied a power play goal with about four and a half minutes to play, but Fresno would hang on for the 4-3 victory.
The Falcons win ensures that the series will go at least five games with Game Four slated for this Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Game Five this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Selland Arena. Tickets for Game Four are already available, and Game Five tickets will go on sale on Thursday at 12 p.m. at the Selland box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com. Arena/Loge seats cost $16 and Balcony seats cost $12.
