
Visalia Roughs up Sixers in Series Opener

San Bernardino, CA- The Visalia Rawhide downed the Inland Empire 66ers 9-2 in the series opener of a four-game set at San Manuel Stadium on Thursday. The game witnessed the Rawhide, winners of the half of the Northern Division's Cal League, pound out 14 hits including three triples in the first 2016 meeting of the two clubs.
Angels righty Nick Tropeano (0-1) started for the 66ers and went 5.0 IP allowing five runs, three earned on seven hits with seven Ks and no walks in a Major League injury rehab assignment. The West Islip, NY native threw 72 pitches on the night, 55 were strikes. Tropeano was placed on the disabled list on June 3rd by Los Angeles with tightness in his shoulder.
Inland Empire (23-48, 0-1) tied the ballgame at 1-1 in the bottom of the first when Taylor Ward delivered a RBI single. It was the Sixers' second hit of the game against Visalia (47-24, 1-0) starter Joel Payamps (2-0) and would prove to be the 66ers last until the ninth inning. Payamps allowed two hits and one run with eight Ks and three walks.
Visalia poured it on offensively scoring the next eight runs unanswered to take control of the game. The Rawhide got a three-hit performance from Victor Reyes who had a triple, a pair of singles and stole a base. Stryker Trahan, Marty Harum, Dawel Lugo, Tyler Baker and Chuck Taylor each had two hits apiece in the win. Visalia was 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
