Modesto Nuts News Release
Bakersfield, CA. - Two long balls solidified the Modesto Nuts' 8-2 victory over the Bakersfield Blaze on Thursday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
In the first, the Nuts (1-0; 27-44) jumped out to an early lead thanks to Drew Weeks' two-run double off Blaze (0-1; 37-34)) starter Anthony Misiewicz (L, 3-6). Forrest Wall added to the Nuts lead with a two-run blast in the fourth inning.
Wes Rogers turned the ballgame into a blow out when he thrashed a grand slam in the top of the ninth.
Yency Almonte (W, 5-5) walked the first man he faced and allowed a RBI single to Austin Wilson, but that was it. Almonte struck out seven and allowed just three more singles after the first frame.
Game two of the four-game set against the Blaze begins at 7:45 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:40 p.m. Listen live online.
