Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino fell to the Visalia Rawhide 7-5 on Thursday at San Manuel Stadium as the visitors pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the ninth and stranded a pair of Sixers runners in scoring position in the bottom of the final frame. Visalia (67-40, 23-18) took the series 2-1 and finished the 2019 season series 13-2 against the 66ers.

Inland Empire (40-70, 14-27) got a leadoff triple from Orlando Martinez in the first against Visalia southpaw Bryan Valdez. Leonardo Rivas followed with a RBI single for a 1-0 lead. The Sixers scored two more later in the frame on Mike Stefanic's double making it a 3-0 lead. The Rawhide answered in the third as they batted around scoring five times in the frame against Sixers starter Kyle Bradish. Nate Bertness calmed the game down on the mound for the 66ers as the southpaw tossed 4.2 perfect innings striking out three batters and allowed Inland Empire a chance to comeback. They did so on a solo homer from DC Arendas (2nd) in the fourth and a game-tying homer in the sixth from Martinez who finished the contest with three hits, a double short of the cycle. The game remained tied until the ninth when with a runner at first, Jorge Perez bunted for a base hit against IE reliever Tyler Smith (1-1). Smith's attempt at first was off the mark and Anfernee Grier, who had singled and stolen second, was able to score. Perez made it to third on the play and eventually came home on a wild pitch making in 7-5. The Sixers put two men in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth but RHP Breckin Williams came out of the pen for Visalia to strike out Spencer Griffin to earn his 12 save of the year and second in as many nights.

The 66ers welcome the San Jose Giants on Friday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be seen and heard live at 66ers.com.
