Kurt Looby and Jared Jordan each tallied double-doubles and three other players scored in double figures as the Rio Grande Valley Vipers beat the Anaheim Arsenal 117-113 at Dodge Arena Tuesday night. Anaheim's James White scored a D-League season high 47 points in the loss,
Looby scored eight of his career high 17 points in the first quarter as the Vipers kept up with the fast pace Arsenal offense trailing only 33-30 after the first. The Vipers and Arsenal traded the lead four times in the first half with Anaheim holding the advantage after the first two quarters.
The Vipers, who had not had many third quarter wins this season, closed out Tuesday's third period on a 9-3 run to outscore Anaheim 29-20 in the period and led 85-80 going into the final quarter.
The Arsenal would make a comeback in the fourth. White's three-point- play capped off an 11-3 run to give the Arsenal a 100-98 lead with 5:59 to play in regulation. The Vipers answered back with 8-0 run of their own to lead 108-100 with 2:24 to play, a lead they would not relinquish.
Looby added 12 rebounds and three blocks in his career night for Rio Grande Valley. Jordan had a career night scoring 18 points and dishing out 12 assists, both career bests. Trent Strickland added a career best 28 points of his own while hauling in six rebounds. Alpha Bangura scored 25 for his fifth straight 20+ point outing for the Vipers.
White was the unstoppable force on the Anaheim offense, but also added 11 rebounds and 3 assists in the loss. Chet Mason scored 14 points hauled in eight rebounds and dished out seven assists. Marcus Campbell finished a rebound shy of a double-double as he scored 13 points in the losing effort for the Arsenal.
The win for RGV marks the first time they have posted back-to-back wins since November 28th and 29th . The Vipers will go for their third straight win Wednesday night when they host the Tulsa 66ers. Anaheim travels to Austin on Wednesday night for a date with the Austin Toros.
