Colorado 14ers News Release

DENVER - January 20, 2009 - The Colorado 14ers overcame an eight point halftime deficit to defeat the Albuquerque Thunderbirds 108-105 at the Broomfield Event Center Tuesday night. The 14ers put an end to the T-Birds seven game win streak, and have won all three meetings between the two Southwest Division rivals so far this season.

After trailing by five early in the fourth quarter, Dominique Coleman ignited a Colorado rally midway through the final period. Coleman found Billy Thomas in the left corner for a 3-pointer to tie the game at 90, and then went on to score the next seven consecutive Colorado points to put the 14ers up 97-92 with 4:49 to play. The 14ers held on the rest of the way to pick up win number 12 on the season.

"It came down to our defense. We score off our defense a lot, and we finally kept them out of the middle," said 14ers head coach Bob MacKinnon. "We also cut down our turnovers in the second half, and we were alright once we started hitting shots."

Six Colorado players scored in double figures, led by 22 points apiece from Josh Davis and Eddie Gill. Gill posted his third consecutive double-double with 11 assists in the victory as well. Coleman finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and three steals on the night.

The 14ers overcame a fantastic night from Albuquerque point guard Will Conroy to pick up the win. Conroy finished with a game-high 33 points to go along with nine rebounds and 11 assists in the loss. Keith McLeod added 21 and David Noel 19 for the T-Birds in the loss.

Albuquerque stays on the road to take on the Idaho Stampede in Boise tomorrow night. The 14ers next game will be Thursday night against the Bakersfield Jam at the Broomfield Event Center.
