Vipers Sign Lefty

The Calgary Vipers announce they have signed pitcher Marcus McKenzie to a Golden Baseball League contract. The left-handed throwing Minnesota native begins his fourth professional season after three years in the Independent Frontier League and a brief stint in the Independent American Association. A graduate of the University of Minnesota the 5'11" 190 pounder played for the Calgary Vipers in the Arizona Winter League under the guidance of A.W.L. Manager and current Vipers' hitting and bench coach Boots Day. The 25-year-old started and won the Championship game on February 27, 2010 for the Vipers by throwing eight innings and allowing only one run while striking out 11. In total McKenzie went 3-3 with one save, a 3.31 Earned Run Average, a .237 batting average against in the A.W.L. while striking out 45 batters in 36 innings.

The Vipers conclude their season's longest road trip, which will see the team play ten games in 11 days, in Victoria against the Seals tonight, Wednesday June 23rd and Thursday June 24th with both games starting at 8:00 PM MDT.

The Vipers return home to Calgary and Foothills Stadium on Friday June 25th at 7:05 PM MDT against the Victoria Seals. On Saturday June 26th the two teams will play a double-header starting at 1:35 PM MDT and it will be Kid's Day at the ballpark where the Inflatamaniacs will perform along with Clowns and Magicians.

On Tuesday June 29th and Wednesday June 30th at 7:05 PM MDT the Vipers will host the Edmonton Capitals for a two-game series. After the game on the 30th the Vipers will host a Canada Day Fireworks Spectacular.

The Calgary Vipers will be hosting 2 to 1 Clinics for Ages 8-14 on Monday July 12th, Tuesday July 13th, and Wednesday July 14th from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM MDT. Each participant will be paired up with another child and one of the Vipers players for two hours of individual instruction and a live one hour game.
