Chico Outlaws News Release

(Chico, CA. June 23nd, 2010) Kris Honel was untouchable again on Wednesday night at Nettleton Stadium in Chico, holding the Edmonton Capitals hitless through the first five innings of the game, and earning his league-leading sixth win of the year with an 8-2 Outlaws win.

The Outlaws got busy right away as Mitch Einertson, starting in center field in place of Blake Gailen, led off the game with a single. The next batter, second baseman Bobby Hill, smoked a ground ball to first base, but it was misplayed by Edmonton first baseman Tom Collaro, allowing Einertson to plate the first run of the game.

Three runs were put up by Chico in the second inning. Catcher Mike Rose walked to lead off the inning. Ismael Castro hit a ground ball to Cap's third baseman Cliff Brumbaugh, who overthrew second base trying to force Rose, putting runners at first and second. One batter later, shortstop Alex Prieto hit an RBI single to drive in Rose, making the score 2-0. Honel then came up and got his second extra base hit of the season, a two-RBI double to cash in Castro and Prieto, putting the Outlaws up 4-0.

Another three-spot when up in the bottom of the third inning for the Outlaws. JJ Sherrill led off the inning with a single, followed by a Mikael Jova single. Rose then hit an RBI double to plate Sherrill. After Castro was hit by a pitch, first baseman John Urick grounded out to first base, but brought Jova home on the play. Three batters later, with the bases loaded, Einertson walked to bring Castro in to score, busting the game out in favor of the home team 7-0 and driving Edmonton starter Clint Nageotte (3-1) out of the game..

Honel (6-0) eventually got touched for two Capitals runs in the sixth when leadoff man Ryan Stevenson singled for the first Edmonton hit of the game. Rookie shortstop Alex Chavez followed up immediately with a single to put runners at first and second with nobody out. Two batters later, former big leaguer smacked a two-RBI double for the Caps only runs of the game.

Einertson hit his fourth homerun of the year in the sixth inning, a solo shot, to make it 8-2 Outlaws.

Former Outlaw Evan White pitched two and a third innings of scoreless relief, while Matt Hrynio pitched three innings of scoreless work for Edmonton.

Josh Dew pitched two and two-thirds innings without allowing a run for Chico, who improved to 22-6 on the year with the win. Edmonton falls to .500 at 14-14.

The Outlaws and Capitals play the series final on Thursday night at the Nett. Outlaws "Knuckle Princess" Eri Yoshida will make her third start of the year opposite Alexander Francisco for the Caps. It's also Hall of Fame Night as Yoshida donates her jersey and bat from her inaugural game back on May 29th against Tijuana to the Hall during an on-field ceremony after she pitches. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm PST.
