
Vipers Sign Former Major Leaguer

The Calgary Vipers Professional Baseball Club have signed pitcher Mike Burns to a 2011 North American League contract. The right-hander is a former Major League hurler and last appeared in the Big Leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2009. Overall the Eastvale, California resident has appeared in 60 MLB games with time on the Houston Astros, Cincinnati Reds, and Boston Red Sox as well. Out of Cal-State Los Angeles the 6'1" 215 pounder was drafted in the 30th round in 2000. This is currently the 32-year-old's 11th season in professional baseball and it is his first in the Independent Leagues.
On Toonie Tuesday June 28th at 6:30 the Vipers will host Jose Canseco and the Yuma Scorpions for 80s Night. Canseco will be available to the media before the game at 4:00. The two teams will also play on Weiner Wednesday June 29th at 6:30 for $5.00 Student Night, on Thursday June 30th at 7:30 for FIREWORKS, on Canada Day Friday July 1st at 1:05 for Baseball Bonanza, and on Saturday July 2nd at 5:05.
The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USAA Pride and the Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
