Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
Last time out, Alexander Concepcion torched the San Angelo Colts. Striking out 16 batters in just six innings of work, Concepcion appeared unhittable. Facing the Colts in his very next outing, Concepcion wasn't as dominant. Although Concepcion struck out seven batters in 5.2 innings, he allowed five home runs and ten earned runs in a 12-7 loss.
The WhiteWings, with the loss, drop to 16-15 on the year and are now two games behind the first place San Angelo Colts who move to 17-13.
Concepcion is pinned for the loss as he moves to 3-3 on the year with an ERA of 9.00.
The 'Wings never held a lead against San Angelo, who raced out to an early three run lead in the bottom of the second inning thanks three-run shot in dead centerfield by Trey Carter.
From there, the WhiteWings were playing catch-up the whole game.
The 'Wings would tie the score in their next at-bat as Francisco Santana recorded an RBI groundout and David Peralta and Leivi Ventura struck for back-to-back doubles to make the score 3-3.
From there, it wouldn't take long for the Colts to respond as during their next at-bat, Clay Calfee blasted a two-run homerun to give the Colts the lead right back at 5-3 in the bottom of the third inning.
Again, the 'Wings would respond as Ventura recorded an RBI infield single and Gerardo Avila singled in to right to bring home the tying run in the top of the fifth to make the score 5-5.
That would be as close as the 'Wings got as the Colts would knock in five unanswered runs - all scored on homeruns. Daryl Jones, with a solo shot over centerfield, made the score 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth and a three-run homerun from Andrew Riddick made the score 9-5 before Cory Patton followed that up with a solo homerun - the fifth of the night - to make the score 10-5.
The WhiteWings would trade two runs in the final two innings, but the five homeruns were enough to do in the WhiteWings.
The 'Wings will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday when they host the Edinburg RoadRunners at Harlingen Field.
First pitch is set for 7:05 PM and fans can catch all of the action live starting at 6:50 PM on 956sports.com and WhiteWingsBaseball.com.
