Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

EDINBURG, Texas---Kendrick Martin struck out nine in six and a third innings leading the McAllen Thunder to a 3-2 victory over the Edinburg Roadrunners Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The loss snaps the Roadrunners four-game win streak.

The Thunder (14-17) got their only runs in the top of the first against left-hander James Giulietti. Eric Eiland hit a one-out double and then moved to third on an infield single by Yaibel Tamayo. With runners on the corners, Yordanys Perez hit an RBI fielder's choice driving in Eiland from third. D.J. Dixon followed with an RBI single to right that allowed Tamayo to score from second. A fielding error then allowed Perez to score from second giving McAllen the 3-0 lead.

The Roadrunners (14-17) answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. Brandon Wilkerson reached on a fielder's choice and then moved to second on a walk to Gabe Memmert. Osiel Flores then hit an RBI single to left center field driving in Wilkerson from second cutting the Thunders lead 3-1.

In the bottom of the third, Jamar Hill reached on a two-out walk and then stole second base. Stantrel Smith then hit an RBI single to field that allowed Hill to score making it a 3-2 Thunders lead.

That would be all the scoring in the ball game as both pitchers settle down. Giulietti (0-1) at one point retired 11 batters in a row but still came away with the tough loss after allowing three runs, two of which were earned, in the first inning.

Martin (2-2) picked up the win after allowing two runs on five hit in his six and a third innings.

Luis Matamoros picked up the save, his fourth, after a perfect ninth giving McAllen the 3-2 victory.

The Roadrunners travel to Harlingen for a five-game series with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings starting tomorrow night at Harlingen Field.

The Thunder have the day off but then open a four-game set against the San Angelo Colts Wednesday night at Foster Field.
