Caps OF Linden Named NAL Player of the Week

Edmonton, AB - For the second consecutive week, an Edmonton Capitals player has been selected as the North American League's top performer over the last seven days. Centre fielder Steve Brown earned the honour last Monday, and left fielder Todd Linden was named NAL player of the week today.

Linden, a native of Edmonds, Washington, recorded 13 hits in 28 at-bats last week for a .464 batting average. Six of those 13 hits were for extra bases as well, including three doubles, one triple and two home runs. Linden also drove in 12 runs, scored nine times and stole three bases.

The versatile outfielder, who turns 31 on Thursday, played for the San Francisco Giants in parts of five seasons from 2003 to 2007, finishing the 2007 MLB campaign with the Florida Marlins. He also spent time in Triple-A with the Cleveland Indians, Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees. Linden has a .231 career MLB batting average with eight home runs and 36 RBI in 270 games.

So far during the 2011 NAL season with the Capitals, Linden is batting .359 with five home runs, 14 stolen bases, 30 runs scored and 28 RBI. He is among the league leaders in batting average, runs scored, RBI and stolen bases.

The Caps (18-12) are coming off a 3-1 series victory against Jose Canseco and the Yuma Scorpions this past weekend. They continue their home stretch this week with a five-game series against Maui Na Koa Ikaika starting on Tuesday at TELUS Field. Edmonton sits in second in the North Division, while Maui is 4.5 games behind them with a 12-15 record.

All five games against Maui start at 7 p.m. and make up the 2011 Canada Day Series presented by Mott's. Caesars are just $3 all series long, and fans can enjoy the best seats in Edmonton to watch the river valley fireworks display at Friday night's game. Tuesday's series opener is another $2 Tuesday, as ice cream, fries, nachos, slushies and pizza are just $2.
