Vipers lose in double OT matinee

Desmon Farmer scored 33 points, but fouled out during the overtime period as the Rio Grande Valley Vipers fell to the Colorado 14ers 138-131 in double overtime, Tuesday afternoon at the Broomfield Event Center. The Vipers missed shot at the end of regulation and the first overtime that would have won the game. The loss is the 12th consecutive road defeat for Rio Grande Valley and the 14th straight within the Southwest Division. Rio Grande Valley had won their previous two games.

Rio Grande Valley had the lead for the majority of the game after trading the upper hand with the 14ers for the first quarter. The Vipers led by as many as 15 points at different stages throughout the game. The Vipers were outscored 17-10 in the second overtime period as Colorado sealed their 19th win of the season.

Four Vipers fouled out, including Farmer, and five finished the game with double figure scoring. Kris Collins came off the bench and scored 24 points and dished out 10 assists for his first double-double of the season. Quin Humphrey also added a double-double of his own as he scored 17 and brought down 13 boards. Trent Strickland also added 24 in the loss.

The Vipers will now travel to Albuquerque for back-to-back games versus the Thunderbirds on Friday and Saturday. Tip-off for both games is set for 8:00pm CST.
