Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release
EL SEGUNDO, CA - Los Angeles guard Brian Chase scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, including six straight free throws in the closing seconds to seal the 104-100 victory over the visiting Tulsa 66ers, Tuesday at STAPLES Center.
Los Angeles (21-10) completed the season sweep of Tulsa. As was the case in last week's win over the 66ers, Los Angeles dominated Tulsa in the fourth quarter Tulsa dropped to 16-14 on the season as they watched the home team outscore them 29-17 in the final stanza.
"I like to have him (Chase) in there at the end of games because he always does that for us." said D-Fenders Head Coach Dan Panaggio. "It was a big win."
The two teams went back and forth in the first half ending each quarter with a one point D-Fenders lead, 26-25 at the end of the first and 54-53 into the break. Tulsa built up a lead in the third quarter and even stretched the lead to as many as 10 points, early in the fourth before Los Angeles took control.
Sean Banks led the way for the D-Fenders with 22 points and a career high 14 rebounds. Jelani McCoy also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
"They hit the big shots," said 66ers Head Coach Joey Meyer. "We didn't do a very good job at stopping them at the end. They hit their free throws, as well."
On assignment from the Milwaukee Bucks, David Noel led all scorers with 26. Mike Hall and Jason Fontenet chipped in with 20 and 19 respectively. Adam Harrington, fresh off his 2008 D-League All-Star 3-point contest victory, struggled from the floor finishing the night shooting 2-13 from the field and 0-6 from behind the arc.
Los Angeles will stay in Los Angeles until next Tuesday when the Anaheim Arsenal come to STAPLES Center for a 3:30pm tip-off. Tulsa will continue their west coast road trip in Anaheim tomorrow night.
