Richardson Earns Gatorade Call-Up to Hawks

NEW YORK - Feb. 19, 2008 - The Atlanta Hawks have signed former Fort Wayne Mad Ants guard Jeremy Richardson to a 10-day contract, Billy Knight, the team's Vice President and General Manager announced last night.
This season, Richardson has already received Gatorade Call-Ups from the Memphis Grizzlies (Dec. 20) and San Antonio Spurs (Jan. 10), posting a total of 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal in eight games.
Richardson's call-up to the Hawks marks the 102nd call-up in the seven-year history of the D-League and the 12th this season.
In 12 D-League games this year the 6-7 Richardson is second in the league in scoring at 25.4 points per game, trailing only Utah's Morris Almond who scores 25.9 points per outing. Richardson has also averaged 6.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per contest.
This past Saturday, Richardson captured the MVP award of the second annual D-League All-Star Game presented by Spalding after pacing the Blue team to a 117-99 victory over the Red team. Richardson scored 22 points on nine-of-15 shooting while collecting four rebounds and one steal.
"I have to give a lot of credit to the D-League," said Richardson. "It helped me out and that's the case for a lot of players out here. Everybody out here is talented and has a chance to make it to the NBA."
Richardson has now made it to the NBA with five different teams, three this year, and two last season (Atlanta Hawks and Portland Trail Blazers).
Prior to his professional career, Richardson starred at Delta State (Mississippi) where he was a First Team All-Gulf South Conference selection following both his junior and senior seasons. He started all 31 games as a senior averaging 17.8 points, and left ranked 14th on the team's all-time scoring list.
Richardson, who will wear number 32, will join the Hawks during their road trip in California, which begins tonight against the Lakers and continues Wednesday in Sacramento and on Friday in Golden State.
The Mad Ants who stand at 10-18, recently changed coaches with former NBA player Jaren Jackson taking over the reigns. Mad Ants games, as well as every other D-League game can be seen live via free web streaming at the League's official Web site d-league.com.
