Vipers Improve to 8-0 with 115-114 Win over Reno

HIDALGO, Texas, December 10, 2013 - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers improved to 8-0 with a 115-113 win over the Reno Bighorns (1-6) tonight at State Farm Arena. Tonight's win ties the NBA Development League's longest win-streak record of 18 games set by Idaho from Dec. 19, 2007 - Feb. 8, 2008.

The Vipers were led by Troy Daniels with 31 points. Chris Johnson and Isaiah Canaan each added 19 points. Robert Covington scored 15 points and Dario Hunt contributed 13 points.

Tajuan Porter led Reno with 24 points, followed by Ra'Shad James with 19 points. K.C. Rivers added 16 points and Mikki Moore contributed 15 points.

During the first half, the Vipers held their largest lead 17-11 midway through the first quarter courtesy of a layup from Canaan. The score tied six times throughout the second quarter as each team fought for control. At the half, the Bighorns led 61-58.

Reno built their lead to 70-60 on a layup from Bryan Davis at the 9:27 mark in the third quarter. Canaan responded with a three-point shot and the Vipers went on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 72 points. A shot from behind the arc by Daniels gave RGV a 75-72 lead. Chris Johnson followed with another three-point shot to put the Vipers up 77-72. The Bighorns continued to fight for the lead and took an 86-84 advantage at the end of the third on two free throws from Davis.

The Vipers were down by 15 points, 109-94 with 4:32 remaining in the game. However, the Vipers responded with a 19-3 run to steal the 113-112 lead with 0:50.0 remaining. Moore connected on a layup to give Reno a 114-113 lead, but two free throws from Covington sealed the Vipers 115-114 victory.

The Vipers hit the road Thursday, Dec. 12 for an 11 a.m. Kids Day game at Austin. Then, RGV visits the Texas Legends Friday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. The next home contest for the Vipers is Thursday, Dec. 19 when the Springfield Armor visit for a 7 p.m. game at State Farm Arena.
