Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX, (Dec. 11, 2013) - CitySquare is a local organization that works to fight poverty in Dallas and the surrounding metroplex. The Texas Legends, presented by Veracruz (visit Veracruz.mx), have partnered with CitySquare for a night that will raise awareness to their mission and the many opportunities to get involved.
In 1988, businessman Jim Sowell decided to take action against the effect of homelessness and poverty by launching the Central Dallas Food Pantry. Since that time the organization has grown into what is now known as CitySquare, one of the largest, most effective social services organizations in Texas. Through 14 programs, CitySquare feeds the hungry, heals the sick, houses the homeless and renews hope to more than 50,000 unduplicated neighbors each year. Its mission is simple: To fight the causes and effects of poverty through service, advocacy, and friendship.
The Legends will wear specialty jerseys celebrating CitySquare, uniquely branded with both the Legends and CitySquare logos. Select jerseys will be available via a silent auction during the game, with all proceeds going back to CitySquare. As part of the festivities of the night, select individuals from the organization will be recognized as "Legends of the Night."
"Everyone at CitySquare feels extremely honored to be participating in such a unique partnership, all designed to provide opportunity and hope to our low-income neighbors who live in inner city Dallas," noted Larry James, CitySquare President and CEO. "We are grateful for the Texas Legends and for the organization's commitment to the larger community!"
The Legends face the San Antonio Spurs affiliate at 7 pm on December 14. It will be the third matchup between the two teams this season with the series currently split 1-1. The Legends, powered on by Mavericks' assignee Ricky Ledo and NBA Development League's top prospect Chris Douglas-Roberts, will be looking for revenge after the Toros defeated them at home a week earlier. The Legends moved to 5-2 with a victory over the Tulsa 66ers Sunday evening which saw 46 combined points from former-Laker Devin Ebanks and NBA veteran Melvin Ely. The Spurs recently assigned forward/center Aron Baynes and guard Nando De Colo to their affiliate Austin Toros. Baynes has averaged 1.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10 games with San Antonio, and while De Colo put up 29 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists in his first game with the Toros.
The game will be broadcast live on television--KTXD47--and radio--KVCE 1160AM, as well as online through the NBADL's YouTube page. For more information on the team or the full season schedule visit www.TexLegends.com. For more information on CitySquare visit www.citysquare.org.
