
Vipers Drop Game to Mad Ants

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (1-2) drop midday game to Fort Wayne Mad Ants (1-2) in the fourth quarter, 119-115 at the AdventHealth Arena. Houston Rockets assignee posted a career-high of 30 points, including a second consecutive double-double adding 11 rebounds and totaling three blocks.
Rockets assignee Kevin Porter Jr. posted 27 points, third consecutive game scoring 20+ points. He dished out eight assists and totaled four rebounds. Both Armoni Brooks (15 PTS, 3 REB, 2 AST, 2 STL) and Shawn Occeus (11 PTS, 3 REB) hit double figures, along with Kenny Wooten (10 PTS, 6 REB, 2 AST, 2 BLK) and Trevelin Queen (career-high 10 PTS, 2 STL) from off the bench.
Jalen Lecque recorded a team-high for Fort Wayne of 24 points, adding six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Both Oshae Brissett (10 PTS, 14 REB) and Rayshaun Hammonds (13 PTS, 11 REB) hit a double-double for the Mad Ants.
The first frame was kept close on both ends, but the Mad Ants managed to earn the lead against the Vipers 30-26. Occeus racked up six points, shooting 2-2 FG and 2-2 3PT. With 6:32 left in the quarter, Wooten tied up the game after an alley-oop dunk, 16-16. Following a fast break, Queen assisted Martin Jr. catching the ball at the rim, hitting a running dunk with 3:59 left on the clock.
Martin Jr. secured the lead for the Vipers going in the second quarter after another fast break dunk at the 3:27 mark. RGV outscored Fort Wayne, giving them a 63-55 lead going into the half. Three Vipers players hit double figures, Porter Jr. totaled 15 points and dished out six assists.
There were two lead changes in the third frame, but the Vipers grasped the lead to head into the last quarter of the game 89-84. With 5:15 left on the clock, Queen earned a steal and followed with a dunk, finishing the third with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists.
The Mad Ants earned a lead in the last frame of the matchup and did not let go. Throughout the game, there was 15 lead changes, with 16 times tied.
As a team, the Vipers shot 46.1% (41-89 FG) from the field and totaled 41 rebounds, 28 assists, eight steals and seven blocks.
