Salt Lake City Stars News Release
ORLANDO - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, raced out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Iowa Wolves 97-84 on Saturday afternoon in Orlando.
Defense was the key for the Stars as they held Iowa to just 26% shooting from downtown while forcing 18 Wolves turnovers. Salt Lake City jumped out to an 11-2 lead and stretched the advantage to 29 with a 63-34 halftime lead. Iowa outscored Salt Lake City in the second half, but never got closer than 13, as the Stars collected a wire-to-wire victory for their first win of the season.
Salt Lake City got a balanced effort across the board as seven players, including all five starters, scored in double figures. Dallas Mavericks two-way player Tyler Bey led all scorers with 18, along with a team-high 11 rebounds, off the bench in his Stars debut. Trevon Scott chipped in 17 points with six rebounds and Trevon Bluiett added 15 points to pace the Stars.
The Stars shot well from deep making 15 3-pointers with four each coming from Bluiett and Mike Scott. Yogi Ferrell scored 11 for his third-straight double-digit scoring game. Off the bench Marcus Graves filled the box score, dishing six assists, grabbing five rebounds and three steals.
The Wolves were led by 16 points from Lindell Wigginton, while Ade Murkey and former University of Utah Star Dakarai Tucker had 14.
Salt Lake City returns to action on Monday as they face the Memphis Hustle (Memphis Grizzlies affiliate). The game tips off at 9:30 a.m. (MT) and is available to be streamed on ESPN+.
