Vipers Acquire Perez

The Calgary Vipers have acquired infielder Wilver Perez from the Victoria Seals of the Golden Baseball League for future considerations and cash. This season Perez has a .318 batting average, nine home runs, 39 runs batted in, 76 runs scored, 25 doubles, 24 stolen bases, and 40 base on balls in 77 games played. With these numbers the Peoria, Arizona native is third in the league in runs scored, fifth in walks and stolen bases, and seventh in doubles and hits (98). This season is Perez's first in independent baseball after five years in the Kansas City Royals organization.

The Vipers were able to acquire Perez after the trading deadline due to a season ending injury to Caonabo Cosme.

Tonight, Saturday August 29th at 7:00 PM MDT the Snakes continue a three game-series in Edmonton with Evan Greusel (6-2) on the mound.

The 2009 regular season will conclude on Sunday August 30th at 2:00 PM MDT against the Capitals as Erik Dessau (8-5) toes the rubber for the Vipers.

Games 1 & 2 of the North Division Championship Series will also be in Edmonton on Tuesday September 1st and Wednesday September 2nd with both games at 7:00 PM MDT.

The Vipers will host Game 3 of the North Division Championship Series against the Capitals on Friday September 4th at 7:05 PM MDT. If necessary Games 4 & 5 will be held on Saturday September 5th at 4:00 PM MDT and Sunday September 6th at 3:00 PM MDT also at Foothills Stadium.
