Victoria Seals News Release

Long Beach, CA - Opening their final series of the season on Friday night, the Victoria Seals made their first-ever trip to Blair Field to take on the Long Beach Armada. With the home side turning to Dustin Gober (4-0) on the mound, the Seals responded with Aaron Trolia (1-4) for the second consecutive game.

Scoreless through the first three frames, the game picked up momentum right into the bottom of the fourth inning when the Armada were first on the board. With a lead-off throwing error to Brian Rios allowing Steve Moss to advance to first, Long Beach grabbed a 1-0 lead thanks to a RBI triple off the bat of Jonny Kaplan.

Evening the game in the top half of the sixth, Victoria used the second double of the contest from Petie Montero to set up a base hit down the line from Josh Arhart to make it a 1-1 ballgame.

Pressing for the lead in the seventh, the Seals squandered their best offensive opportunity of the night when Armada reliever Justin Segal forced Petie Montero into an inning-ending double play, working Long Beach out of a bases loaded jam.

With Trolia retiring 15 straight batters into the bottom of the ninth inning, Victoria elected to keep their starter on the hill after base hits from Matt Edgecombe and Andy Bouchie put the game-winning run in scoring position. A third straight single, however, would prove to be the difference when Kaplan picked up his third hit of the contest and brought home the final run, handing Long Beach a walk-off 2-1 victory.

Aaron Trolia was excellent on the mound for the Seals, falling just one out short of a dominant performance, but falls to 1-5 on the season while Justin Segal earned his second win on the year in relief. Jonny Kaplan played the hero on Friday, notching 3 hits and cashing both Long Beach runs in the victory.
