Vipers Acquire Daniels from Santa Cruz

MCALLEN, Texas -- The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers today announced that they have acquired Chris Daniels from the Santa Cruz Warriors in exchange for Scott Machado. RGV also receives Santa Cruz's original second round pick in the 2013 NBA D-League Draft.

Daniels, a 7'0" center, was the 9th pick overall in the 2011 NBA Development League Draft. Santa Cruz acquired Daniels prior to the start of the season through a trade with the Erie BayHawks.

Daniels comes to the Rio Grande Valley from Qingdao of the Chinese Basketball League. While in China this season, Daniels averaged 28.6 points and 11.3 rebounds in 24 games, and played alongside former Houston Rocket Tracy McGrady. Daniels scored a season high 42 points on Jan. 20 versus JianJin.

In three games for the Warriors this season, Daniels averaged 7 points and 5.7 rebounds. He previously played four seasons in South Korea where he won two championships. Last season, Daniels was a member of the 2012 NBA D-League Showcase Second Team and a member of the 2012 NBA D-League Select Team, which competed in the 2012 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

Daniels is no stranger to South Texas. He played college basketball for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and was named the 2007 Southland Conference Player of the Year.

Daniels will join the Vipers when they travel to Reno Sunday, March 10 for a 5 p.m. CT contest. Fans can listen to Vipers games live on Fox Sports 1700 and can watch the games live on the NBA Development League Network on YouTube.
