
Viper Clinch Playoff Spot With Victory Over Stars

EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (20-14), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, clinched a playoff spot in the NBA G league Playoffs after a 97-77 victory over the Salt Lake City Stars (20-14) on Saturday night at Bert Ogden Arena.
In the opening minutes of the game RGV scored the first four points. Salt Lake then took over the lead after breaking a 6-6 draw. The quarter was then tied six more times with the final time being 20-20 at the end of the quarter.
As soon as either team pulled away, the opposing team would make a comeback and tie the game. After being tied four times, the Stars made a final 45-45 tie which sent the game into the intermission.
The third quarter had seven lead changes as both teams attempted to take control. However, with less than five minutes to go, Salt Lake took a 61-60 lead and maintained it until the very end of the third which resulted in a 69-68 quarter.
RGV had a 29-point fourth quarter while limiting Salt Lake to only eight points which propelled the Vipers to a 97-77 victory over the stars to clinch the final spot in the NBA G League playoffs.
Houston Rockets Two-Way Jermaine Samuels Jr. had a double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Ray Spalding had another double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Jarrett Culver had the third double-double of the team with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Taevion Kinsey had 18 points followed by Stars assignee Kenneth Lofton Jr. with 17 points. Elijah Cain had 11 points.
On Tuesday, April 2 the Vipers will take on the Oklahoma City Blue at 7:30 p.m. CST at Paycom Center for the Western Conference Quarterfinals. The game can be streamed via Tubi. For more information visit www.rgvipers.com.
