Viper Alum Makes Big League Debut

September 8, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Calgary Vipers News Release

For the first time in Calgary Vipers' franchise history a former player has been promoted to Major League Baseball. After pitching for the Vipers during the 2008 season Robert Coello is now a member of the Boston Red Sox. As a free agent the hard throwing right-hander came to Calgary for the start of the 2008 campaign after converting from a catcher and spending one season in Rookie ball with the Angels organization. At the completion of the 2008 season the 6'5" 250 pounder was signed by Boston and in two seasons progressed from High A-Ball in 2009 to AA and AAA earlier this season prior to his big league promotion at the age of 25.

The Vipers continue the North Division Championship Series with Game 2 in Chico against the Outlaws in a best of five series tonight, Wednesday September 8th, at 8:05 PM MDT with Mac Suzuki taking to the hill for the Vipers.

Calgary returns home to Foothills Stadium for Game 3 of the North Division Championship Series on Friday September 10th at 7:05 PM MDT. If necessary Games 4 & 5 will also be played in Calgary on Saturday September 11th at 5:05 PM MDT and Sunday September 12th at 1:35 PM MDT.
