Victoria Seals News Release
Victoria, BC - Kicking off the second half of their Golden Baseball League season, the Victoria Seals played host to a double header against the Yuma Scorpions on Wednesday night, following a rain-out one day earlier. With the visitors sending Reynaldo Correal (0-2) to the mound in game one, the Seals responded with ace Isaac Hess (6-0) in the series opener.
As the Victoria starter cruised early on, striking out four of the first seven batters faced, the Seals jumped out to 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the third frame. A two-out walk to Wilver Perez was followed up by an RBI double from Sergio Pedroza to give the home side a one-run lead.
With the Scorpions pressing to tie the game, the home side picked up a big double play in the fourth inning, and then four strikeouts from Hess in the fifth and sixth to sit just three outs from a win in the seventh. After a lead-off single from Reynaldo Rodriguez put the tying run on second, Hess notched his 11th strikeout of the game, a new club record, to seal the deal for Victoria. The Seals claimed their first shutout win of the year, a 1-0 final score over the Scorpions.
Isaac Hess becomes the first pitcher in the Golden Baseball League to reach seven wins, while also grabbing the league lead with 61 strikeouts on the season, after collecting the complete-game victory. Reynaldo Correal falls to 0-3 this year with the loss. Sergio Pedroza had the only two hits of the contest for Victoria, and earned the game winning RBI.

In the second half of the double header set, the Scorpions turned to Javier Ortiz (1-3) for the start, and the Seals countered with Robert Sotolongo (1-1) on the hill.
Opening the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, Victoria got an RBI base hit from Jamar Hill to cash Sergio Pedroza after his two-out walk. The Scorpions, however, would knot the game back up in the third frame when Deivis Rivadeneira lined his first home run of the season over the left field fence for a 1-1 tie.
Yuma would then jump out to a one-run lead in the fourth inning, when lead-off double from Carlos Villalobos scored on another double, this time from Ismael Castro, to put the visitors out front 2-1.
After the Seals tied the contest once again with back-to-back doubles from Hill and Pedroza in the bottom of four, Victoria grabbed the lead with another double from Pedroza to bring in Wilver Perez after his base hit in the fifth inning. The home side then added some insurance when Brian Rios crushed the first pitch of the sixth frame over the left field fence to put the Seals out front by a 4-2 score.
Needing at least two runs to extend the game in the seventh, pinch-hitter Carlos Pupo got the rally started for the Scorpions. After an error to Wilver Perez on a double play ball with one out, a double from Adolfo Gomez brought Yuma within one. A wild pitch from Seals closer Javier Garcia then tied the game 4-4, before two consecutive singles from Reynaldo Rodriguez and Castro scored two more unearned runs, giving the Scorpions a 7-4 lead and turning the tables on Victoria.
Unable to muster a base runner against Yuma's Christian Mendoza in the bottom of the seventh, Victoria lets game two slip away as the Scorpions take a 7-4 win. Javier Ortiz picks up his second win on the season, while Garcia is charged with both a blown save and a loss. Ismael Castro was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI's in the comeback win for Yuma, while Victoria's Sergio Pedroza was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI's in the losing effort.
