Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - Lou Pote had to wait just over two hours through the first ever Edmonton Capitals rain delay to pick up his fifth win of the season as the Caps won a wet one over the St. George RoadRunners, 6-1. With the win, the Capitals improve their record to 24-18.
Due to heavy rain that finished out the third inning, the game was delayed until the weather permitted with the Capitals leading by a 2-0 score. Following the lengthy delay, the Capitals tacked on a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Eight Caps batters had one hit apiece in the seven inning game to produce the offense. Darryl Brinkley, Joey Gomes and Matt Ceriani each drove in a run. On the mound, Pote (5-0, 1.40 ERA) received the win while David Seccombe (4-2, 4.77 ERA) took the loss. Seccombe did not return to pitch following the rain delay.
The game was originally scheduled to be the first of a doubleheader to make up for Tuesday night's rain out but became a single game following the delay. A doubleheader is now scheduled for tonight to conclude the series with St. George. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 6:00pm and game two will follow almost immediately.
This upcoming weekend series with Victoria is full of themed nights to include Fireworks Friday, Christmas in July on Saturday and Bark in the Park on Sunday. Friday's start time has been changed to 7:00pm. Anyone wearing a full Santa or elf costume to Saturday's game will receive free admittance. On Sunday, dog owners are encouraged to bring their canine pet to the game and help support the Edmonton Humane Society.
Tickets for all Capitals home games are available at the Capitals Box Office, any TicketMaster location, by calling 780-414-GOAL (4625) or by visiting CapsBaseball.ca.
