Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals have yet again pulled off a couple of roster moves in order to strengthen their pitching by picking up Australian reliever P.J. Bevis as well as Edmonton product and former Montreal Expo Mike Johnson.

Johnson is back for his third stint in Edmonton after spending 2004 with the Trappers and 2007 with the Cracker Cats. Originally drafted in 1993 in the 17th Round (490th overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays, Johnson spent parts of five seasons in the big leagues (Expos and Baltimore Orioles). Johnson's first action as a Capital is expected to be tonight in a start against St. George at TELUS Field.

Born in Edmonton, Johnson played his high school baseball at Salisbury Composite in Sherwood Park. He also had the rare opportunity to be a Canadian baseball player that spent most of his professional career playing in Canadian markets including Medicine Hat, Ottawa, Montreal and Edmonton for 10 of his sixteen years in pro ball. Johnson spent the past couple seasons in the Chinese and South Korean Leagues and also pitched for Team Canada against the US in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Bevis finished last season with the Calgary Vipers compiling a 1-5 record with a 3.30 ERA and three saves. Originally signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 1998 as a free agent, Bevis climbed as high as Triple-A in both the Mets and Rockies systems before joining the Independent Leagues in 2007.

To make room for the new pitchers the Capitals will have to release or inactivate two players currently on the roster. Those decisions are still to be announced.
