Hitmen face the Royals again on Sunday in Victoria
Victoria, BC - Matthew Phillips and Tanner Kaspick both scored twice to lead the Victoria Royals past the Calgary Hitmen 4-1 on Saturday night at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
Phillips, a Calgary Flames prospect, set the tone early scoring just 61 seconds into the opening period and then added his 35th goal of the season late in the second period to bookend the scoring.
Luke Coleman, with his 10th, provided the lone Calgary marker.
Special teams played a key role for Victoria as the Royals went 2-3 on the power play while killing eight of Calgary's nine chances.
The Hitmen return to the ice in Victoria for a rematch with the Royals tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 28. Radio broadcast on Sportsnet 960-The Fan begins at 6:00 p.m. MT.
Calgary season-high seven game road trip will also head to Vancouver (Jan. 31 and Feb. 2), Kamloops (Feb. 3), Red Deer (Feb. 7) and Medicine Hat (Feb. 9), before returning to the Scotiabank Saddledome for a rematch with the Tigers on Sunday, Feb. 11.
