Everett Silvertips News Release
KENT, Wash. - Liam Hughes stopped all three shooters to help the Seattle Thunderbirds sneak by the Everett Silvertips in a shootout, 3-2 before 5,476 fans at ShoWare Center on Saturday in WHL action.
The Silvertips had their eight game win streak snapped but increased their lead to five points for first place in the U.S. Division after Kamloops defeated Portland, 4-2 earlier this evening. Connor Dewar scored twice, moving into second on the Tips in goal scoring for the season. He has five goals in five games against the Thunderbirds this season.
UP NEXT: The Tips come back home Sunday, hosting the Spokane Chiefs at 4:05 p.m. at downtown Everett's Angel of the Winds Arena. Tickets are on sale at www.everettsilvertips.com/ticketcentral.
Dewar smashed a one timer past Liam Hughes from the inside of the left circle, set up by Garrett Pilon, just 3:23 into the game for a 1-0 lead. The Silvertips outshot Seattle, 12-8 in the opening frame and went penalty free with the lead until 7:34 of the second period. That was when Noah Philp set up an unchecked Blake Bargar at the net, who re-directed his 10th of the season to the back of the net for a 1-1 tie.
Dewar then streaked towards the net at 7:41 of the third period and successfully redirected another feed from Pilon, this time from the right circle for another lead at 2-1. But a Tips penalty for tripping proved costly, with Matthew Wedman winning a scrum for a loose puck for a power play goal and 2-2 tie at 10:25.
After a scoreless OT period, Hughes stopped the first two shooters but received help from the crossbar after Patrick Bajkov missed on a gorgeous deke and through-the-legs maneuver. Austin Strand's forehand goal in the top of the third round set up the final shooter, with Pilon stopped off the right pads of Hughes.
Carter Hart was in net for the Silveritps, stopping two of three in the shootout and paired with 29 saves.
