Charlottetown Islanders News Release

Victoriaville, QE - The Charlottetown Islanders wrap up their final Quebec swing dropping a nail-biter 3-2 to the Victoriaville Tigres at the Colisée Desjardins Saturday night.

Carter Bickle was solid, stopping 27 of 30 shots in the loss.

All square at one after one

It only took 26 seconds for Isaac Vos to test Victoriaville's goaltender Gabriel D'Aigle, and he passed, turning him aside.

The Isles got into penalty trouble again early as Kyle Powers was penalised for shooting the puck over the glass. The Isles stood their ground despite being a man down, preventing a power play goal.

Not long after it expired, Charlottetown managed to get on the board first. Cole Huckins scored in his second straight game, beating D'Aigle five-hole. His 16th of the year was assisted by Owen Conrad.

Soon after, Justin Gendron took a hooking penalty to give the Isles their first power play opportunity. It didn't go according to plan though for Charlottetown.

A turnover at the Islanders' end, Eliott Simard went on the rush and beat Bickle to tie the game at one.

That's how the score would stay after the first period.

Last minute heroics from Swan keeps it even at 2 after 2

Victoriaville came out of the gates to make a statement to start the second period with three consecutive shots. Bickle looked sharp, turning each chance aside.

Despite pressure from the Isles, they weren't able to get one through the defence.

After another power play with a solid effort from the Isles was followed up with a Victoriaville goal. They took their first lead of the night as Maël Lavigne found a way to get the puck in the back of the net after a broken play.

D'Aigle had to be sharp, turning aside both Anton Topilnyckyj and Simon Hughes to keep the Tigres ahead by a goal.

With just over a minute left in the period, James Swan took a shot in between the face-off circles. The puck hit a Victoriaville defender's stick and deflected past D'Aigle to send the teams into the intermission knotted at two goals apiece. Marcus Kearsey added his 37th assist.

D'Aigle shines, leading the way to two points

Four minutes into the third period, Francesco Iasenza took a high-sticking penalty. That gave the Isles a man advantage and a great chance to restore their lead.

Hughes managed the only shot on the power play and soon after it expired, they were called for too-many-men on the ice.

Then, just three seconds after the penalty expired, Victoriaville's momentum led to a goal. Alexis Bourque notched the go-ahead-goal half-way through the final frame.

Shortly after, Hughes and Huckins, as well as Egor Goriunov and former Islander Mathis Aguilar were all sent to the box for roughing. Tensions were getting high as the clock was winding down.

The Victoriaville penalty box continued to fill up as Simard interfered with Islanders captain, Michael Horth.

There were chances produced from up and down the lineup. Will Allen and Carl-Etienne Michel each had shots but D'Aigle kept the door shut.

With the net empty, Horth, Huckins and Kearsey threw everything they had towards the net, but D'Aigle secured the 3-2 win for the Tigres.

Victoriaville edged the Isles in shots 30-27 and were the more physical team with 25 hits as opposed to Charlottetown's eight.

The Isles will play in Cape Breton against the Eagles on Wednesday, March sixth. Puck drop at the Centre 200 is at 7 p.m.
