Big Numbers On The Board In Win Over Saint John
March 2, 2024 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Halifax Mooseheads News Release
Halifax, Nova Scotia - The Mooseheads broke out on offense in a big way at home on Saturday night with a 7-1 thumping of the Sea Dogs in front of 9,763 fans at Scotiabank Centre.
Jan Sprynar scored two goals and added an assist and Halifax clinched home ice advantage for the first round of the QMJHL Playoffs by reaching 84 points for the season. Sprynar's goals came 21 seconds apart in a busy third period that saw the Moose pile up four goals to bury Saint John. Fans can circle Friday, March 29th and Saturday, March 30th as Games #1 & #2 that will be hosted in Moose Country.
Halifax bounced back after dropping a shutout loss to Acadie-Bathurst a couple of nights earlier and looked like a different team with an all-around effort on Saturday. Mathieu Cataford and Markus Vidicek each had a goal and an assist while Jack Martin, Logan Crosby and Luke McPhee provided the other goals. McPhee's was his first as a member of the Mooseheads and it counted as the game-winning goal.
Mathis Rousseau backstopped the victory with 29 saves and the Moose improved to 39-15-7-1 on the season with six games to play. Lou Levesque chipped in a pair of assists and David Moravec, Dominic MacKenzie, Liam Kilfoil and Peter Reynolds had single helpers. Tyler Peddle had the lone goal for the Sea Dogs who despite the loss, will remain as the final team in the playoff picture after another loss by the Quebec Remparts. Those teams are tied in points with 42 but the Dogs would get into the postseason on the Regulation + Overtime wins tiebreaker.
The game finished off a hectic stretch of three home games in four nights for the Moose and they will host three more games before wrapping up the regular season with three on the road. Halifax is idle until next Friday night when they entertain the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at 7pm. Then it's the Moncton Wildcats in town on Sunday, March 10th at 3pm. The homestand finishes on Thursday, March 14th at 7pm against Charlottetown. Tickets are going fast for all three contests and are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca.
