Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Greenville Grrrowl of the East Coast Hockey League announced on Thursday the addition of goaltender DAMIAN RHODES to the roster. The 33-year old St. Paul Minnesota native was assigned to the Grrrowl by the National Hockey League?s Atlanta Thrashers.
Rhodes was the first-ever expansion player signed by the Atlanta Thrashers in 1999. In 81 career games with the Thrashers, Rhodes is 14-48-11 with a 3.63 goals-against average. He is 92-121-41 with a 2.83 GAA in 309 NHL games with Atlanta, Ottawa and Toronto.
"Coming to Greenville shows that Damian is anxious to play, and that should be a positive influence", said Grrrowl VP of Hockey Operations and Head Coach JOHN MARKS. "This could be the first step back to the NHL for a very gifted player." Rhodes is expected to play tomorrow against South Carolina.
This season, Rhodes was loaned to the American Hockey League?s Lowell Lock Monsters on December 14th, and was 1-4-0 with a 4.12 goals-against average in 7 games. He was returned to the Thrashers on January 5th and has been working out on the West Coast. The Thrashers currently have 7 goalies under contract.
The Greenville Grrrowl play 4 games in 5 days starting tomorrow (Friday) night as the South Carolina Stingrays invade the BI-LO Center at 7:05 PM (Newsradio 1330 & 950, WORD).
