TROY, NY --- Ryon Healy went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a two-run homer and five RBI as the Vermont Lake Monsters completed a three-game sweep of the Stedler Division leading Tri-City ValleyCats with a 9-6 New York-Penn League victory on Friday night at Bruno Stadium.

Healy gave Vermont a 3-2 lead in the third inning on a two-run double scoring Melvin Mercedes and B.J. Boyd, who had plated the Lake Monsters first run on an RBI bunt single scoring Billy McKinney. Vermont added three more tuns in the fourth on a Boyd two-run double and Healy RBI double for a 6-2 advantage.

Vermont led 7-3 in the eighth when Healy hit a two-out, two-run homer for his fourth home run of the season and third extra-base hit of the game. With the five-RBI night, Healy became  the first Lake Monster player with five or more RBI in a game since Russell Moldenhauer had five RBI  in an 11-5 win at Aberdeen  on August 30, 2010.

Ronald Herrera, an 18-year-old from Venezuela making his first appearance from Vermont after being promoted from the Arizona League Athletics, got off to a rough start as he hit the first two Tri-City batters of the game. Herrera later gave up a sacrifice fly in the first and then an unearned run in the second, but allowed just three runs (two earned) on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts over five innings for win.

Tri-City rallied in the bottom of the eighth with three runs off reliever Dominique Vattuone, who had not allowed an earned run in his first seven appearances for Vermont. Vattuone struckout potential-tying run Yonathan Mejia to end the eighth and Fernand Cruzado tossed a scoreless ninth inning for his first save.

Boyd was 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI, while Mercedes was 3-for-5 with a run scored. Reliever Troy Scribner (1-2) allowed five runs on five hits over two innings to take the loss for Tri-City (41-30), which now leads Lowell by just one-half game for first-place in the Stedler Division with five games remaining.

The Lake Monsters scored 21 runs on 36 hits (hitting .371) in the three-game sweep of Tri-City after Vermont had scored just 15 runs on 45 hits (hitting .166) over its eight-game losing streak August 20-28. The three-game sweep was also the first for the Lake Monsters in a road series since July 1-3, 2010 at Lowell.

Vermont (32-39) returns to historic Centennial Field for the final five-game homestand of the season beginning on Saturday at 6:05 pm as the Lake Monsters host the Connecticut Tigers in the first of a two-game series. Fans bringing their iPhone 4 or 5, or Samsung Galaxy will receive a free Lake Monsters Smartphone Case courtesy of Small Dog Electronics.
