
Spinners Spoil Tigers' Home Finale

Norwich, CT "" The Lowell Spinners (39-29) defeated the Connecticut Tigers (31-39) by a score of 3-1 Friday night before the largest crowd in CT Tigers history 6,008 at Dodd Stadium. The Spinners two run second inning was the difference in the game. 2B Carlos Asuaje's (1-3) sacrifice fly scored 1B Kevin Mager (1-4) to put the Spinners in front 1-0. LF Aaron King (1-4) followed with an RBI single that scored DH Danny Bethea (1-4) to take a 2-0 lead.
The Spinners used three pitchers that held the Tigers to one run on six hits. Starter LHP Corey Littrell picked up the no decision pitching in four shutout innings and gave up three hits while striking out five batters. RHP Yunior Ortega (1-0) picked up his first win of the season in his second appearance of the year. Ortega pitched three innings while giving up one run (unearned) on three hits. RHP Joe Gunkel (5) picked up his fifth save of the year after pitching two scoreless inning while striking out four batters.
The Tigers defense continued to struggle tonight as they committed four errors in the game. Over the last four games the Tigers defense has committed 15 errors. The offense continued to struggle at the plate going 6-32 with two extra base hits and struck out 11 times. DH Kasey Coffman (2-3) provided the team with a pair of hits including a double. LF-CF Tyler Gibson (1-3) had an RBI double in the seventh inning that cut the lead to 3-1. RHP Matt Davenport did his best in relief of starter RHP Buck Farmer (0-3) who suffered the loss after giving up two runs in three innings. Davenport pitched four innings while giving up one run on three hits and struck out six batters which was the most from either ball club for one pitcher.
The Tigers head out on the road for the final five games of the season and start with the Vermont Lake Monsters in a two-game series starting tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. LHP Joe Mantiply (0-1, 2.23) takes the mound for the Tigers.
