BROOKLYN, NY --- Gene Cone's one-out walkoff suicide squeeze scored Dan Rizzie from third base to give the Brooklyn Cyclones a 5-4 New York-Penn League victory over Vermont Wednesday night at MCU Park and hand the Lake Monsters their 10th straight loss.

Vermont reliever Will Gilbert issued a one-out walk in the bottom of the ninth to Rizzie, who advanced around to third base on a Darryl Knight line drive single to right field. Then on a 1-0 pitch, Cone laid down a squeeze bunt that Gilbert fielded but could not throw home in time to get Rizzie and Brooklyn (27-25) picked up its third straight win.

The Lake Monsters had built an early 3-0 lead with a run in the second on a Robert Bennie RBI single and two runs in the third on a JaVon Shelby RBI single followed by a Luke Persico sacrifice fly. Brooklyn scored twice in the bottom of the third as Cone ripped an RBI double and then scored on a Nick Sergakis RBI groundout. The Cyclones tied the game in the sixth on a Tyler Painton run-scoring wild pitch,

Vermont retook the lead in the seventh as Bennie led off the inning with a double and three batters later scored from third on a Eric Marinez one-out RBI single, but Brooklyn again tied the game in bottom of seventh on a walk, groundout and Sergakis RBI single to left. The Lake Monsters loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, but Cyclones reliever Taylor Henry struckout Bennie and Steven Pallares to get out of the jam.

Cone was 3-for-5 with a run, double and two RBI for the Cyclones, while Desmond Lindsay and Knight both had two hits. Brooklyn used seven different pitchers in the game, five of them pitching one inning, after starter Merandy Gonzalez left after just two innings. Joseph Zanghi (1-0) allowed a two-out double in the ninth, but got a strikeout of Tyler Ramirez to end the inning and picked up the victory with the Cyclones walking off in bottom ninth.

Marinez, Bennie, Persico and Eli White each had two hits for the Lake Monsters, while Ramirez had two walks but went 0-for-3 to snap his 11-game hitting streak. Starter Jesus Zambrano allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings, while Painton two runs on four hits in 2 1/3 innings and Gilbert (0-2) two hits with two walks in his 1 1/3 innings for the loss.

Vermont (19-33) has now lost 16 of its last 18 games, while the 10-game streak is the third longest in the team's 23-year history behind 14 straight losses in 2001 and 12 consecutive defeats in during 2003 season. It was also Vermont's eighth straight loss on the road and the Lake Monsters are now just 13-29 all-time at Brooklyn (3-9 in last 12).

The teams will play the final contest of the three-game series in Brooklyn on Thursday before Vermont returns home for the three-game series against the Tri-City ValleyCats at historic Centennial Field beginning on Friday.
