Auburn Doubledays News Release

The Auburn Doubledays, Single-A Short Season affiliate of the Washington Nationals, came up one-run short on Tuesday night at Falcon Park in a 3-2 loss to the Connecticut Tigers. Sheldon Neuse had two hits and scored two runs for the Doubledays.

The Tigers (28-23) scored first in the top of the first inning. With one out, Daniel Piî=B1ero singled. With Joey Havrilak batting, a wild pitch allowed Piî=B1ero to advance to second base. Havrilak then hit a ball to first base, but Ryan Ripken misplayed to ball, allowing Piî=B1ero to score for a 1-0 Connecticut lead. Blaise Salter followed with a fly out to right field. With Josh Lester batting, Havrilak stole second base. Lester followed with a single to right field that scored Havrilak to put the Tigers up 2-0.

Connecticut extended its lead in the third inning. With two outs, Havrilak reached on a two-base throwing error by pitcher Luis Reyes. Salter followed with a base hit to left field as Havrilak scored to give the Tigers a 3-0 advantage.

The Doubledays scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sheldon Neuse and Nick Banks led off with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second base. Tres Barrera then grounded into a fielder's choic in which Banks was out a second, but Neuse was safe at third base and Barrera was safe at first. With Ripken batting, a wild pitch allowed Neuse to score from third to cut the Connecticut lead to two, 3-1.

Auburn scored again in the sixth inning. Neuse led off the inning with a triple. After a Banks strikeout, Barrera hit a sacrifice fly to center field. Neuse tagged up and scored to make the Doubledays' deficit one, 3-2. That's as close as Auburn would come though.

The Doubledays and the Tigers meet on Wednesday for the second game of a three-game series. Left-hander McKenzie Mills will pitch for Auburn against Connecticut left-hander Austin Sodders. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
