Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
BROOKLYN, NY - August 9, 2016 - On Monday evening, RHP Harol Gonzalez (5-1) was named to the NYPL All-Star Game. On Tuesday night, he showed everyone why he received the honor, tossing 7.0 shutout frames as Brooklyn defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters by the score of 3-0 at MCU Park.
The Cyclones got things started in the bottom of the second when Desmond Lindsay lined an opposite field single and moved up to third on a single off the bat of Michael Paez. Paez also moved into scoring position on the play, thanks to some heads up base running, as he hustled his way to second on the relay throw to third. OF Jay Jabs followed with a walk to load the bases before Brandon Brosher shattered his bat on an 0-1 offering, but the ball landed safely in centerfield to plate a pair and give Brooklyn a 2-0 edge.
That's how it would stay until the bottom of the sixth when Desmond Lindsay led off the frame with a solo blast over the left field wall, his second home run of the season, to push Brooklyn's advantage to 3-0.
And that would be more than enough offense for the Cyclones as Harol Gonzalez continued his dominance of the New York-Penn League with 7.0 shutout frames, scattering just four hits and walking one while striking out seven. The righthander was aided by some stellar defense behind him, including the final out of his evening when Jay Jabs nailed Tyler Ramirez at the plate for the final out in the seventh.
Gonzalez, who has allowed just one run over his last five starts, turned the ball over to Gary Cornish who tossed 2.0 scoreless frames to close out the game and collect his second save of the season.
The Cyclones will look to extend their win streak to three games when they take on the LakeMonsters in the middle game of a three-game set on Coney Island. It will be 90s Nickelodeon Night and both teams will wear special Ren & Stimpy uniforms as part of the evening's festivities. In addition, all tickets will cost just $10. Get your seats now by visiting the MCU Park Box Office, logging on the BrooklynCyclones.com or by calling 718-507-TIXX.
