Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSON, Tenn. - The Miami Marlins have made several transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's series-opening game against the Jackson Generals at The Ballpark in Jackson in Jackson, Tenn.
Right-handed relief pitcher Rett Varner has been transferred from Jacksonville to Triple-A New Orleans. This is the second time this season Varner has gone from the Suns to the Zephyrs, and with Jacksonville he was 1-1 with a 4.32 ERA in seven relief appearances.
In addition to the Varner transaction, the Marlins announced that outfielder Jake Marisnick joins the Suns from High-A Jupiter. Marisnick, who began the season on the Suns disabled list, played in three games with the Hammerheads where he was 3-for-15 at the plate with no homers and no RBI. Marisnick is listed by Baseball America as the fourth-best prospect in the Marlins organization, and he was acquired in a trade this past November from the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Suns roster stands at 24, and a revised roster is attached.
The first game of that series is scheduled for Wednesday night at 8:05 p.m. ET. Right-hander Sam Dyson (0-1, 1.86 ERA) will start for the Suns against Jackson right-hander Taijuan Walker (2-2, 1.55 ERA). Fans can listen to the contest on the Suns Baseball Network, with coverage beginning with the UF & Shands Suns Pregame Show at 7:50 p.m. on WSOS-FM 94.1.
Jacksonville returns home Tuesday, May 7 for a five-game series with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
