Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, Tenn. (May 1, 2013) - The Generals (12-14) opened their five-game series with Jacksonville (14-11), thrashing the Suns, 9-1. The victory Wednesday night was one of the best all-around performances by the Generals this season. Abe Almonte and James Jones recorded four-hit games in the win.
Almonte (4-5, 2B, 2R) picked up exactly where left off offensively to begin the home stand. Almonte led off the game with a double. After the Generals center fielder Francisco Martinez (0-4) sacrificed Almonte to third, Brad Miller (0-2, 3R) reached on a base on balls and John Hicks (1-4, HR, 3RBIs) was hit by a pitch, James Jones (4-4, 3RBIs, 3 doubles) cleared the bases with a two-out double which gave the Generals an early 3-0 lead.
The Suns responded with one run in the second. Kyle Jensen led off the inning with a walk, advanced on a wild pitch and scored off the Danny Black groundout.
The Generals continued the offensive attack tallying one run in the fourth and fifth making the score 5-1. The biggest inning offensively came in the sixth when the Generals added four runs. It all started when Almonte singled to center, Miller reached via a walk, then Generals catcher John Hicks launched a three-run homer to left. The next batter, Julio Morban (2-5, 2 RBIs, HR) homered to right, going back-to-back with Hicks. After six innings, the Generals led 9-1.
Generals starter Taijuan Walker (W, 3-2, 6.0,3,1,1,2,7,0) tossed six outstanding innings and picked up his third win of the season. Sam Dyson started for the Suns and was credited for the loss. Kyle Hunter (1.0,0,0,0,0,2), Moises Hernandez (1.0,1,0,0,0,0) and Forrest Snow (1.0,0,0,0,0,2) added scoreless relief behind Walker.
