PEARL, MS -- Catcher Christian Bethancourt has been placed on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain retroactive to April 25.

Bethancourt, 21, was hitting .341 in 12 games for the M-Braves this season. Bethancourt is ranked as the third-best prospect and the Best Defensive Catcher in the Atlanta Braves system according to Baseball America.

The Panamanian was signed by the Atlanta Braves as a free agent on March 12, 2008. He spent the entire 2012 season with the Double-A Braves, but battled a couple of injuries including a season-ending left-hand fracture in August. Bethancourt was selected to participate in the MLB All-Star Future's Game and was named as a Southern League Mid-Season All-Star.
