PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves defeated the Tennessee Smokies 3-0 in game one of a five-game series at Trustmark Park Wednesday. The game was called with two outs in the bottom of the fifth due to inclement weather.

With the win, the M-Braves have now won five consecutive games and 13 of its last 15 games. Mississippi (16-10) plated three runs on three hits while the Smokies (14-11) managed just two hits against the Braves Wednesday.

Cubs right-hander Matt Garza (0-1) made a rehab start for Tennessee. He went two and two-thirds innings, giving up one earned run on one hit and two walks before coming out of the game due to pitch-count limits.

Michael Lee (3-1) started for the M-Braves. He limited the Smokies to two hits while striking out six batters in five innings. Lee is credited with a complete game. The last shortened complete game for an M-Braves pitcher was Sean Gilmartin in game two of a doubleheader May 31, 2012, against Montgomery.

Originally scheduled for 11:00 AM, inclement weather delayed first pitch for an hour and 32 minutes. Initial showers finally moved out of the area to allow the Braves and Smokies to get an official game in the books.

The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Christian Marrero and Edward Salcedo drew back-to-back walks. Marrero moved to third when Jaime Pedroza grounded into a double play. Braeden Schlehuber followed with a RBI-single to right field to plate the game's first run.

With rains approaching again in the fifth, Emerson Landoni singled to left field. He then took second on Michael Lee's sacrifice bunt. Mycal Jones walked and stole second to put runners at second and third with two outs. Jose Martinez followed with a two-run single to center field, extending the M-Braves lead to 3-0.

Heavier rains moved in right after the M-Braves scored its final two runs and the umpires singled for the tarp crew to cover the field. The game was officially called 42 minutes later as the rains had set in for the afternoon and play could not resume.

The M-Braves take on the Smokies in game two of the series Thursday at 7:00 PM. Braves right-hander J.R. Graham (1-1, 3.09) counters Smokies righty Dallas Beeler (2-2, 3.16). Gates open at 6:00 PM.
