March 29, 2018 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC are proud to announce the launch of the Kid Captain of the Match program.

Kid Captain of the Match is a joint effort between the club and the Vancouver Southsiders, Curva Collective, and Rain City Brigade to honour a "Kid Captain" at every Vancouver Whitecaps FC home match.

The aim of the program is to celebrate children who have faced significant adversity and overcome obstacles, as well as those who have made a positive impact in their community.

At every home match, a new Kid Captain will be recognized prior to kickoff in the supporters' section and featured on the videoboard at BC Place as part of Whitecaps FC's starting XI.

In the pre-match presentation, club ambassador Carl Valentine, along with representatives from one of the three supporter groups, will introduce the Kid Captain to the crowd and tell their story. The Kid Captain will then be presented with a scarf from that supporter group and will watch the match from the EA SPORTS Fan Bench located pitchside.

Whitecaps FC and Curva Collective were incredibly proud to honour 16-year-old Taylin McGill as the club's first Kid Captain at the March 4, 2018 home opener. As an infant, Taylin was diagnosed with salmonella bacterial meningitis, which led to her overcoming 14 brain surgeries and countless seizures throughout her childhood. Taylin was BC Children's Hospital's 2017 Champion Child and truly embodies the Whitecaps FC motto of "Our All. Our Honour."

Taylin is featured in a new Whitecaps FC video which documents her life and her special bond with 'Caps defender Jake Nerwinski. Fans can watch the video at whitecapsfc.com.

Whitecaps FC fans can nominate a deserving Kid Captain of the Match from their community at whitecapsfc.com/kidcaptain. Kid Captain nominees must be between six and 18-years-old.
