Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Volcanoes Stadium) - The Vancouver Canadians were shutout for the first time this season after falling 4-0 to Salem-Keizer on Saturday night. The loss, Vancouver's second straight, drops the Canadians record to 1-2 on the young Northwest League season.
Vancouver stranded nine base runners on the night, six of them over the first three innings as Volcanoes starter RHP Nate Santiago weaved his way through the Canadians offense allowing four hits over his first appearance of the season.
Salem-Keizer reliever Nolan Riggs (1-0) also went four scoreless innings allowing just a pair of hits as he recorded the victory.
Offensively, the Canadians managed six hits on the night, but couldn't get a runner past second base in the loss.
Vancouver got four solid innings from starter RHP Francisco Rios (0-1) who allowed a pair of earned runs on three hits, taking the loss.
The Canadians ran into trouble in the 5th inning when reliever LHP Joe Claver came into the game and walked four Volcanoes hitters that included a bases loaded walk to 1B John Riley. Shortly after, Vancouver manager John Schneider summoned LHP Brandon Hinkle who helped limited the damage as he induced Salem-Keizer DH Miguel Gomez into a fielder's choice and then struck out CF Julio Pena to keep the game within reach at 4-0.
Vancouver's LHP Brandon Hinkle(1.2IP), LHP Turner Lee (1.0IP) and LHP Bob Wheatley (1.0IP) did not allow a Volcanoes hit over the final 3.2IP of the game.
