Spokane Indians News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - Hillsboro starter Jared Miller tossed six innings of dominant baseball, allowing just three hits with nine strikeouts as the Hops topped the Indians 10-3 in front of a sold-out crowd of 7,023 fans on Friday night. It was the season's first Yoke's $1 Family Feast Night, presented by Yoke's Fresh Markets and 92.9 ZZU. The Hops jumped to a quick 5-0 lead in the game's first four innings behind Miller's arm. If it wasn't for LeDarious Clark's single in the third, the Indians would have been facing a dubious no-hitter during the first five innings.
Spokane showed signs of life in the sixth inning, as Yeyson Yrizarri smashed a broken-bat double to deep left, advancing Clark to third base. Next up, Ti'Quan Forbes hit a grounder right up the middle to split the defenders to score Clark. A throwing error by Hillsboro shortstop Sergio Alcantara allowed Yrizarri to score.
But the Hops broke the game wide open in the eighth with former Washington Husky Tyler Davis making his Indians debut. Davis allowed five runs, one unearned, in 1.1 innings to give Hillsboro the final tally.
Indians starter Emerson Martinez struggled on the bump, giving up five runs - three earned - in just 3.1 innings. The bullpen combination of Jeffrey Springs and Kohsuke Tomita kept Spokane in the ball game with 3.1 combined innings of scoreless baseball.
Sherman Lacrus added an RBI single in the eighth. He leads the team with a .444 batting average.
The Indians return to Avista Stadium, tomorrow, Saturday, June 20th for Fireworks Night. The game will be presented by Valley Glass, KHQ, The Big 99.9 Coyote Country, KXLY-AM 920 and The Current. First pitch is at 6:30 PM, and can be heard on SportsRadio 1510 KGA.
