Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Jordan Cowan went 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs, but the Everett AquaSox fell short of a win in a 7-5 loss to the Eugene Emeralds in the second game of a five-game set on Friday, June 19, at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The AquaSox will look to rebound in action tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. when Seattle Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma takes the mound for a rehab start. Limited tickets are still available for the Saturday, June 20, game and can be purchased online at aquasox.com.

Eugene got scoring started when Adonis Paula singled to score Tyler Alamo from second base in the second inning. The Emeralds got one more in the fifth when Ho-young Son doubled to open the inning, moved up on a wild pitch, and Kevonte Mitchell grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Son to score.

Everett tied the game at two in the bottom half of the fifth when Drew Jackson and P.J. Jones were able to reach base via single and error, respectively. The two moved up on a wild pitch, and Jordan Cowan doubled to right to score both runners.

The Emeralds put three on the Frogs in the eighth after a pair of errors on the first batter of the inning. Ian Happ, the Chicago Cubs' first round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, sat on second after the incident and moved up on a groundout before scoring on a passed ball. Frandy De La Rosa and Tyler Alamo got on and were knocked in on a big double by Adonis Paula off of the centerfield wall.

That gave the Emeralds the lead for good, but Everett would try to get back in it in the bottom half of the inning. Yojhan Quevedo led off with a base hit and moved to second on a passed ball. Drew Jackson made it all the way to second on an error and Quevedo scored on the play, before P.J. Jones' first hit in the Northwest League, a double, scored Jackson from second to make it 7-5.

The Frogs had a chance in the final inning after getting two runners on with one out, but Corey Simpson grounded into a close double play to end it.

Iwakuma will look to help boost the AquaSox tomorrow with his rehab start. That game begins at an earlier time of 6:05 p.m. and only a few tickets are still available. Call the front office at 425-258-3673 or stop by at 3802 Broadway in Everett.
