Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants 3 game winning streak was snapped, losing 3-1 to the Kamloops Blazers Wednesday night at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops. With the loss the Giants fall 5 points back of the Blazers for first in the BC division.
Jackson Whistle got the call in net, making just his 5th start of the season, and he was outstanding in the first period making a number of key saves, including a huge diving stop off Bronson Maschmeyer midway through the frame on a Kamloops power play. However, he could not stop them all as Austin Madaisky found the back of the net to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes. Whistle stopped 14 of 15 shots he faced in the opening frame.
Late in the second period, with the Giants on the power play, they would get the equalizer; Nathan Burns banged home a rebound off a shot from Brett Kulak for his 6th goal of the season to make it 1-1 with 1:33 left in the second period. Unfortunately, the Blazers would respond only 21 seconds later to regain their lead and go up 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.
In the third period, Chase Schaber would put the home side up 3-1 to round out the scoring. The Giants could not generate any chances in the third period, managing just 4 shots. The final shots were 34-19 in favour of Kamloops. Whistle was solid in a losing cause making 31 saves. The Giants finished 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Blazers were 0-for-4.
The Giants round out the 2011 calendar year, Friday December 30 at 7:30 pm when they open up a 8 game homestand vs. the Prince George Cougars. The pregame show begains at 7:00 pm on AM 650.
