(Memorial Stadium - Everett, WA) - A 2-for-2 night from LF Matt Newman combined with a 3-for-5 effort from 3B Derrick Chung helped the Canadians top the Eugene Emeralds in the opener of a six-game home stand out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Thursday.

Newman got the Canadians on the board in the bottom of the 2nd inning when he sent a RHP Justin Hancock offering over the right field fence for his first home run of the summer. The blast scored RF Nick Baligod giving Vancouver a 2-1 lead. Newman would add a double and a walk in the series opener against Eugene.

3B Derrick Chung had base hits in the 1st, 3rd and 8th innings to bump his average on the season to .444 (8-for-18), while 1B Balbino Fuenmayor went 2-for-5 in the win with a pair of singles. The Canadians would draw a season-high 10 walks off of Eugene pitching with eight (8) pitchers making appearances in the loss for the Emeralds.

On the mound, Canadians starter LHP Colton Turner limited the Northwest League's top offense to just four hits over his five innings of work picking up his first professional victory. The combination of RHP Tucker Donahue (2.0IP), RHP Ian Kadish (1.0IP) and RHP Drew Permison (1.0IP) held the Emeralds to just two hits over the final four innings on Thursday helping Vancouver to an 8-2 final.
