Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. -- The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that 19-year old center Paul Van de Velde has been reassigned to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

A former member of the Everett Silvertips, Van de Velde will remain a roving affiliate for the Wheat Kings, who made a big splash at Sunday's WHL Trade Deadline with the acquisition of all star defenceman Travis Hamonic from the Moose Jaw Warriors.

In 35 games this season, Van de Velde had five goals, ten points and 30 minutes in penalties. In 52 games with the 'Tips during the 2008-09 campaign, he had four goals and 13 points.

As a result of Monday's move, the Wheat Kings have 23 players on their active roster - two goalkeepers, eight defencemen and 13 forwards. Hamonic, who was a member of the Silver medal winning Canadian team at this year's World Junior Hockey Championships, is currently sidelined with a separated shoulder that should keep him on the shelf for at least another month.

Hamonic will join Team Canada teammate Brayden Schenn in Brandon later today. Schenn, who has spent the past week in Saskatoon, is expected to be in the Wheat Kings' lineup on Tuesday when Brandon kicks off a 2-game Saskatchewan road trip in Moose Jaw.

Brandon's next home game is Friday night against the Warriors. Tickets to Friday and Saturday's game vs. Edmonton are now on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
