Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY, NY - Heading into the final game of the regular season on Monday night vs. the Vermont Lake Monsters, the 'Cats need a victory to gain the No. 1 seed and home field advantage throughout the New York-Penn League playoffs.
If the 'Cats win, they will own a 48-28 overall record, and will be tied with State College for the best record in the league. However, the 'Cats own the tie-breaker through a 2-1 series victory over the Spikes earlier in the season.
Should the 'Cats lose, they will earn the No. 2 seed.
Either way, the ValleyCats are guaranteed to be the higher seed in the Semi-Final Series, and will play Game 1 of the best-of-three series Wednesday night on the road. Game 2 will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
The ValleyCats opponent is unknown as of yet, as multiple games scheduled on Monday will have an impact on the playoff seeding.
If the 'Cats defeat Vermont on Monday night and earn the No. 1 seed, they will play the Wild Card winner, who will either be the Connecticut Tigers or Brooklyn Cyclones.
The Tigers will win the Wild Card with a victory on Monday night over the Lowell Spinners, or with a loss by Brooklyn.
In order for Brooklyn to win the Wild Card, they will need a victory against the Staten Island Yankees, AND a Connecticut Tigers loss.
If the 'Cats lose Monday, and become the No. 2 seed, they will play the No. 3 seeded Hudson Valley Renegades.
The media is invited to attend a light workout being held by the ValleyCats at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Tuesday at 1pm. The team will then depart to the location of Semi-Final Series Game 1.
Below is a schedule of Monday night's games, as well as the tentative 2014 New York-Penn League playoff schedule.
