ValleyCats Sweep Oneonta Doubleheader

TROY-The Tri-City ValleyCats swept a doubleheader against the Oneonta Tigers 3-2 and 4-1 before a capacity crowd at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. The ValleyCats have now won three out of the first four games against the Tigers.

Ryan McKeller got the start in game one and was absolutely outstanding for the ValleyCats. He gave up two runs on five hits and struck out ten Tigers. McKeller, who leads the New York-Penn. League in walks, did not allow a free pass for only the second time this season.

Mario Garza hit a home run in game one of the doubleheader to give the ValleyCats an early 2-0 lead. It was Garza's first home run since August 26 and just his second since August 1. He hit ten home runs in the month of July to propel himself to the lead in homers and RBI's. Garza still leads the Penn league with 15home runs and 65 RBI's.

In game two of the doubleheader, the ValleyCats pounded Oneonta Tigers Dan Konecny for three runs in the first inning. Then in the second inning, ValleyCats centerfielder Mitch Einertson smacked a solo home run over the left-field wall. Einertson was promoted from the Rookie Greeneville Astros, where he hit 24 home runs and drove in 67 RBI's.

Raymar Diaz, Antony DeWitt, and Bo Edmiston combined to make short work of the Tigers. Diaz went three innings on short rest. DeWitt and Edmiston finished off the game with two innings each. Edmiston picked up his second save.

The ValleyCats and Tigers finish out the regular season on Saturday night against the Tigers at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. First pitch is at 7:00 and game time is set for 6:40 on AM 1160 WABY Mechanicville and AM 900 WUAM Saratoga Springs as well as on the Internet at sportsjuice.com.
